Brock Township is accepting applications for paid on-call volunteer firefighters, with resumes and covering letters due by 4:30 p.m. Monday, November 23.

The Township’s November 4 announcement directs prospective applicants to its careers page and a detailed posting covering stations in Sunderland, Cannington and Beaverton.

Who can apply

The posting requires applicants to be at least 18, hold a Grade 12 diploma or equivalent, and maintain a valid Ontario Class G driver’s licence in good standing. A Class D licence with a Z endorsement is an asset when applying and mandatory once hired. Other requirements include vulnerable-sector screening and a signed pre-employment medical screening form.

Applicants living in Brock must be within a 10-minute travel time of their assigned station. Applicants who live outside the Township but work within it must work within that travel time. Read the full posting for the complete eligibility requirements.

On-call work includes ongoing training

The position is paid on-call rather than a regular full-time job. The posting lists hourly rates of $17.95 to $25.36, varying with response or training duties, training level, qualifications and certifications; hours vary.

Firefighters may receive emergency calls at any hour. Mandatory training normally takes place weekly at the assigned station, with additional dates as assigned. New recruits must pass the specified firefighter and hazardous-materials testing to move beyond probation.

How to submit an application

Send a covering letter and resume explaining how the qualifications are met, marked confidential, to hr@brock.ca by the November 23 deadline. The Township says only applicants selected for interview will be contacted. Recruitment accommodations can be requested from Human Resources.
