About Pickering
The City of Pickering sits at Durham Region’s western edge, bordering Toronto’s Scarborough neighbourhood. With a population of approximately 100,000, Pickering blends established suburban communities in the south with the vast, largely undeveloped Seaton area and rural lands in the north.
Pickering is divided into three wards. Regional Councillors are elected at-large (not by ward), while City Councillors represent specific wards. The council has 7 members: the Mayor, 3 Regional Councillors, and 3 City Councillors. Major features include the Pickering Nuclear Generating Station, the planned Pickering City Centre development, and the waterfront Frenchman’s Bay area. The city is served by GO Transit (Pickering and Rouge Hill stations), Highway 401, and Highway 407.
Note: Pickering’s ward boundaries are changing for the 2026 municipal election following a boundary review.
