Lakeridge Health says PCL Partnerships has been awarded the contract to design, build and finance the Bowmanville Hospital redevelopment. The November 5 announcement marks a procurement milestone, not the opening of the expanded hospital.

Site preparation this fall, major construction in the new year

The hospital operator says PCL Partnerships will begin mobilizing to prepare the site this autumn, ahead of major construction in the new year. Bowmanville Hospital is to remain open and continue providing care throughout construction.

The planned redevelopment would more than double the hospital’s size. Lakeridge Health lists private patient rooms, new outpatient clinics, a haemodialysis centre, a rooftop helipad and Level 3 critical care capacity among the planned features. These are future project features, not services this announcement says have already opened.

Clarington mayor responds

In a November 6 statement, Clarington Mayor Adrian Foster welcomed the contract award and described the redevelopment as important to residents’ access to care close to home. He also pointed to continued community fundraising for the local share of the project and equipment.

The hospital’s more specific construction sequence distinguishes autumn site preparation from major construction in 2027. The two announcements reviewed for this story do not supply a final opening date or contract price; neither is inferred here.

Project scope and sequencing are attributed to the hospital operator; the mayor’s response is reported as his statement, not an endorsement.
