Ajax residents planning Diwali celebrations have a three-day window for fireworks under the Town’s latest reminder: November 7, 8 and 9, between 11 a.m. and 11 p.m.
Ajax Fire and Emergency Services issued the notice ahead of Diwali on Sunday, November 8. It recommends leaving fireworks to trained professionals because of the risk of fires and burn injuries.
Location and property permission matter
The Town says fireworks are not permitted in public parks, on public streets or on roadways at any time. Anyone choosing to discharge fireworks must have the property owner’s consent and follow the Town’s fireworks by-law.
These dates and hours apply to Ajax. They should not be assumed to apply elsewhere in Durham Region; neighbouring municipalities set their own requirements.
Check the safety guidance before celebrating
The notice advises residents to follow product instructions, avoid windy conditions, keep water and a portable extinguisher nearby, and never hold a lit firework or try to relight one that fails. It also cautions that sparklers can cause serious burns and should be kept away from children.
This is a reminder about permitted private use and safety requirements, not an announcement of a Town-run fireworks display.
