Durham Regional Police Service says officers laid 1,447 charges during its annual In the Zone campaign focused on school zones and Community Safety Zones.
Charge breakdown
DRPS reported 590 speeding charges, 134 speeding charges in Community Safety Zones, 207 stop-sign violations and 19 stop-sign violations in Community Safety Zones.
The remaining reported total included 39 hand-held-device charges, 29 red- or amber-light offences, five suspended-driving charges, four seatbelt offences, three failures to obey a crossing guard, three failures to yield to a pedestrian, one stunt-driving charge, seven pedestrian-related offences and 406 other Highway Traffic Act or administrative offences.
