Habitat for Humanity GTA has selected 521 Rossland Road West in Ajax for a proposed 66-unit affordable-homeownership development.
Proposed homes and eligibility
The current site plan calls for three-storey, stacked back-to-back townhomes: 12 one-bedroom units, 14 three-bedroom units and 40 three- or four-bedroom units. Ajax says all 66 homes would be offered as affordable-homeownership opportunities.
Habitat GTA is expected to set household-income eligibility. The Town lists anticipated eligible household incomes of about $70,000 to $130,000 and says total housing costs would be capped at 32 per cent of household income, including mortgage payments, condominium fees, property taxes and home insurance.
Municipal support
Ajax Council authorized $9 million in June: $7 million connected to the land sale and $2 million for project-advancement costs. The Town says the support draws on its provincial Building Faster Fund allocation, federal Housing Accelerator Fund allocation and Strategic Initiatives Reserve.
No construction-completion date was stated in the announcement. The proposal remains subject to the applicable planning and development process.
