Construction has begun on the third segment of the Durham–Scarborough Bus Rapid Transit project along Kingston Road in Pickering, between Steeple Hill and Merritton Road.
Durham Region says lane shifts and restrictions will remain in place throughout the project, which is scheduled to continue until August 31, 2028. Weather and construction progress may affect that date.
Extended lane reductions are planned
From late October 2026 through summer 2027, Kingston Road is expected to operate with one eastbound lane and two westbound lanes while major wastewater work is completed.
In late 2027, the Region expects longer one-lane-per-direction restrictions at Whites Road and Fairport Road while new transit stop platforms are built.
Transit, sidewalks and businesses remain open
The official notice says bus routes, bus stops, sidewalks and businesses will remain open during construction. Drivers are asked to use caution around pedestrians, cyclists and work crews.
The wider project includes dedicated transit infrastructure along the Highway 2 corridor. This segment is partially funded through the federal–provincial Investing in Canada Infrastructure Program.
