Pickering residents can comment on new neighbourhood traffic-calming guidelines through an online survey and interactive map until September 30.
The city says residents may mark specific locations, describe traffic or road-safety concerns, and upload contextual photos. The feedback will help shape a process for identifying, assessing and prioritizing future traffic-calming requests.
What the guidelines may cover
Traffic-calming measures can include roadway design changes, pavement markings, signage and other treatments intended to slow vehicles and improve safety for people walking, cycling and driving. The new guidelines are intended to modernize Pickering’s 2003 approach and apply to eligible city-owned local, collector and Type C arterial roads.
Durham Region roads—including Kingston Road, Whites Road and Brock Road—are outside the city program.
Mayor Kevin Ashe said residents’ direct experience will be considered alongside technical data as the city develops the guidelines.
