Durham residents should plan ahead for Regional office, clinic and waste-depot closures on Wednesday, November 11. The Region’s Remembrance Day notice says curbside waste collection will continue without changes, and Durham Region Transit will operate weekday service.

Offices and in-person services

Regional Headquarters and front counters, Provincial Offences Courts and offices, Family Services Durham locations, Ontario Works offices and Child Care and Early Years Division offices will be closed. The notice says Regional directly operated early learning and child care centres are not affected.

Adult Day Programs at Hillsdale Estates in Oshawa and Lakeview Manor in Beaverton will close. The Port Perry Adult Day Program is normally closed on Wednesdays.

Health services: an earlier water-sample cutoff

Health Department services will be unavailable November 11, including the Oshawa Oral Health Clinic and sexual health, breastfeeding and immunization clinics.

Water-sample bottle drop-off and pickup will stop at 8:30 a.m. on November 10 at Regional Headquarters, the Health Department’s Port Perry office, Uxbridge Municipal Office and Garnet B. Rickard Recreation Complex in Bowmanville. The regular schedule resumes at 8:30 a.m. on November 12.

Transit and waste collection continue

DRT’s Specialized Services/On Demand Call Centre will be open from 5 a.m. to midnight, and its Customer Service Call Centre from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. The customer-service desk at 110 Westney Road South in Ajax will be closed.

Waste facilities in Brock, Scugog and Oshawa, the Clarington Household Special Waste Depot and Whitby’s Waste Management Centre for new and replacement green bins will close. These facility closures do not change curbside waste collection.

Homelessness outreach remains available

Durham Region Outreach will continue supporting people experiencing homelessness. Contact HomelessHelp@durham.ca, 905-668-4113 extension 5510, or 311 extension 5510 from within Durham.

Online court services and the Regional Headquarters drop box remain options, but the notice says services will not be monitored during the closure. Follow the original notice for court-service links.

Sources and verification

The full Regional announcement was read November 2. Its source publication date was checked in the official RSS feed, separately from the service-impact dates. This is an original summary of that primary notice, not a list of every local municipal closure.
