Ajax has retained Silver status in the 2026 Bicycle Friendly Community awards, a program run by the Share the Road Cycling Coalition that evaluates municipal cycling infrastructure, education, encouragement, enforcement, equity, planning and evaluation.

The Town says Ajax is one of five Ontario municipalities receiving Silver status this year. Ajax first earned the designation in 2017, and the 2026 award marks its third Silver recognition.

What the Town highlighted

  • Ajax reports more than 180 kilometres of cycling routes and trails across its active-transportation network.
  • The Town says its shared e-scooter and e-bike pilot has recorded more than 70,000 trips since 2023.
  • Ajax Active Transportation Coordinator Armi De Francia also received the Norma Moores Award at the Ontario Bike Summit.

Mayor Shaun Collier said the renewed designation reflects continued work to improve connections and access. De Francia said future work will include transportation planning, safer cycling links and programs encouraging residents to choose cycling for local trips.

How the recognition works

The Bicycle Friendly Community program is operated by the Share the Road Cycling Coalition, an Ontario cycling advocacy and policy organization. Its annual awards assess municipal policies, facilities and community programs rather than ranking individual cyclists or elected officials.
