A section of Liberty Street North will close September 9 as Durham Region begins the first phase of roundabout construction in Clarington. The closure is scheduled through December 31, 2026; weather could change the timing.
Closure and detour
The affected stretch of Regional Road 14 runs from Longworth Avenue to Bons/Freeland Avenue. The detour uses Longworth Avenue, Bowmanville Avenue (Regional Road 57) and Taunton Road (Regional Road 4).
The project combines road reconstruction with sewer and watermain work and a new roundabout. Completion of the entire project is expected in spring 2028, not at the end of this first closure.
Area businesses will remain open. Drivers should allow for the detour and watch for pedestrians, cyclists and construction crews. Updates are available on the Region’s project page.
