Several Durham Region facilities, counters and health programs will be closed on Wednesday, September 30, as the Region observes the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. Waste collection and Durham Region Transit will continue.
Regional services that will be closed
- Durham Regional Headquarters in Whitby, including Provincial Offences Court offices, Ontario Works, Family Services counters and Regional call-centre services.
- Family Services Durham locations and Ontario Works offices in Ajax, Oshawa and Uxbridge.
- Adult Day Programs at Hillsdale Estates in Oshawa and Lakeview Manor in Beaverton.
- Waste management facilities in Brock, Scugog and Oshawa; the Clarington Household Special Waste Depot; and the Waste Management Centre in Whitby.
- Regional oral health, sexual health, breastfeeding and immunization clinics.
Durham Region Outreach will continue to support people experiencing homelessness. The Region’s original notice lists contact routes for that service.
Water-sample service pause
Water-sample bottle drop-off and pickup is unavailable from September 29 at 8:30 a.m. until October 1 at 8:30 a.m. at Regional Headquarters, the Health Department’s Port Perry office, Uxbridge Municipal Office and the Garnet B. Rickard Recreation Complex in Bowmanville.
Services that remain available
- Residential waste collection continues without changes.
- Durham Region Transit continues without changes.
- Regional directly operated Early Learning and Child Care Centres remain open.
- Online court and prosecution tools remain available, although they will not be monitored during the closure.
