Conseil scolaire Viamonde is asking families and Francophone communities to suggest a name for its new French-language public elementary school in Ajax. The school is scheduled to open in September 2027.
How to submit a proposal
Suggestions can be submitted through Viamonde’s Ajax school consultation page until October 11. Participants are asked to explain the meaning of the proposed name.
Under board policy, proposals must reflect the character of secular French-language public education. Names may recognize a person distinguished within the Francophone community in fields such as the arts, education, history, politics or science. Ideas may also draw from local history, culture, geography or traditions.
What happens next
Viamonde says a representative school-community committee will assess proposals for merit, meaning and compliance with board criteria. Repeating a suggestion will not increase its weight. The committee’s recommendation will go to the board and then to Ontario’s Ministry of Education for final approval.
The Ajax school is one of three Viamonde elementary schools expected to open in September 2027. The other two are planned for Chatham and west Hamilton.
