The Town of Ajax has brought back its Battle of the Buildings energy-saving challenge for a second year, running from September 1 through December 31, 2026. The initiative asks users of seven municipal facilities to cut energy consumption by at least 10 percent compared with the same period last year.
Participating facilities are the Ajax Community Centre, Audley Recreation Centre, McLean Community Centre, Ajax Town Hall, Ajax Operations Centre, Ajax Public Library Main Branch, and Ajax Fire & Emergency Services Headquarters.
The Town is working with Elexicon Energy and Ontario Power Generation on the challenge. In the municipal notice, Mayor Shaun Collier said the program is one way Ajax is encouraging residents and staff to take practical steps toward a more sustainable community. Cameron Richardson and Kristine Innes are also named in the release.
How the challenge works
The competition tracks energy use at each building. Staff and visitors are encouraged to turn off lights, power down equipment, and reduce unnecessary energy consumption. The goal is a community-wide reduction of at least 10 percent.
