About Uxbridge
The Township of Uxbridge is a rural municipality in the northern reaches of Durham Region, with a population of approximately 22,000. Known for its scenic countryside, extensive trail systems, and the historic Uxbridge downtown, the township sits within the Oak Ridges Moraine and is popular with nature enthusiasts and commuters alike.
Uxbridge is divided into five wards, each electing one councillor. The council has 7 members: the Mayor (who also serves as Regional Councillor), and 5 Ward Councillors. The township’s main urban centre is the community of Uxbridge (often called “Uxbridge Village”), with smaller settlements including Sandford, Leaskdale, Siloam, and Goodwood.
Uxbridge is known as the “Trail Capital of Canada” due to its extensive network of hiking, cycling, and horseback riding trails. The township was also the filming location for numerous movie and TV productions.
Note: Mayor Dave Barton also serves as Uxbridge’s Regional Councillor on Durham Regional Council.
