About Brock

The Township of Brock is Durham Region’s smallest municipality by population, with approximately 13,000 residents. Located in the northern part of Durham Region, Brock is a predominantly rural community characterized by farmland, conservation areas, and small villages. Brock is divided into five wards, each electing one councillor. The township’s main communities include Beaverton (the largest), Cannington (the administrative centre), and Sunderland. Lake Simcoe forms part of Brock’s northern boundary, making it a popular area for cottagers and recreational activities. The council consists of 7 members: the Mayor (who also serves as the Regional Councillor), and 5 Ward Councillors. Agriculture, tourism, and small business are the economic mainstays.
